• Our business was founded in 1996 by Alvin Allen, a career hoist and lift maintenance man and millwright. He retired in 2004, but continues to mentor us.
• Our construction crew is versatile, highly qualified in electrical, metal and mechanical skills, and a mature team who have built or worked on most of the lifts that exist in Ontario. Ruben Johnson, field supervisor, has 10 years’ lift installation experience. Chris Elliott is a highly talented Class A mechanic; Norm Stevenson is a certified welder with very broad industrial experience. Graham Sinclair is a versatile career electronics specialist, builder and building inspector.
• You will deal personally with Drew Hutcheson, the company president, who is a Muskoka native and cottager, with 30 years’ business experience in construction, systems, automotive manufacturing and, (since 2003) hillside lifts.
• We operate a small fabrication shop, in which every lift is customized to order according to the needs and desires of the customer.
• If there is a feature that you would like to have, please share your idea with us! It is our pleasure to build your lift exactly as you would like it.
• Our engineering team includes specialists in electronic controls, structural, mechanical and soils areas, with a decade of experience in hillside lifts.
• Our philosophy is above all cautious. We innovate slowly and conservatively.
• We thoroughly test any new design concept potentially affecting safety, on our own permanent test track, before building it in the field.
• Any new design concept introduced to the marketplace is monitored at length in a “beta trial” before further use in the market.
• We test or inspect every component a number of times during the construction of your lift.
• Each lift is tested thoroughly before delivery, by the company president.
• Testing and inspections at each stage are done by someone who was not closely involved in doing the work being tested, to avoid bias.

"Re: Thanks for a Fabulous Lift System

Thank you for designing, building and installing a fabulous lift system for my family.

We had a problem, poor access to our cottage waterfront due to a steep terrain. It was not easy for my wife to walk down to the shore as she suffers from MS and finds walking both tiring and difficult.

You fixed that. Our new Lift System has now been operating since July and we have never had a problem with its operation. In fact, everyone including our guests and neighbours loves it. We have more freedom to enjoy our property, swim in the lake, fish off the dock, watch the loons and admire the fall colours than we ever had before.

We would recommend Canadian Hillside Lift to everyone. Great service, a super system that works and concerned people who cared.
